City Employee Information for Hurricane Irma

The following information is for city employees only. This information has been updated as of 9/9/17 at 7:40 p.m.

In response to Hurricane Irma, the City Manager declared a state of emergency effective 7AM, Friday, Sept. 8th, 2017 and the following actions will take place:

  • All non essential city facilities (libraries, recreation centers, city office buildings, etc) are closed through Monday Sept.11 with possible openings on Tuesday, Sept. 12.

  • Non essential employees, as determined by individual departments will not report to work during their normal work shifts until at least Tuesday, Sept. 12. These employees will be compensated for all regularly scheduled work time they would have normally worked. Hourly employees who are considered essential and who are required to work during the storm will receive their normal compensation for all hours worked including any pay differentials. In addition, these employees will receive an additional emergency pay differential equivalent to one-half of the employee’s hourly rate of pay for all hours worked as long as the declared emergency continues.

  • The Employee Health Center is closed until further notice.

  • City Employee Phone Tree: Non-essential employees should call 727-562-4100 to find out the city’s current operation level and listen to the phone tree to find out department-specific information on when to report to work. This is for employees who are not listed as “essential employees”.

  • Clearwater Gas Dispatch will move to the Emergency Operations Center.
  • There will be no residential or commercial garbage or recycling pick up on Monday. No decision has been made about Tuesday at this time.
  • Full activation of the Emergency Operations Center will start at 8 a.m. Sept. 9. The back-up shift employees that are expecting to come in at 8 p.m. Sept. 9 should plan to come in earlier (at noon or 2 p.m.) due to winds. A and B shifts will have to be flexible because they may not be able to go home after the 12 hours. Those coming to the Emergency Operations Center need to bring items for riding out the storm and sustaining themselves.
  • Employees who are non-essential should not plan to come into work on Monday. If you are not working at the Emergency Operations Center in either the A, B or C shift or if you haven’t been told to report to your post, then you do not need to report to city offices. Employees may be expected to be at work Tuesday if the storm continues on the current track. It is expected that the recovery team will come back to work when the winds get below 40 miles per hour.
  • We will continue to update this page with information for employees.

This state of emergency will remain in effect until the City Manager declares the emergency ended.
